Our Father in heaven, I pray that you would grant to this body a sacred moment of quiet repose before you, before they take up the work of this day. May all of our spirits be renewed and refreshed by the presence of your spirit.

Thank you Lord for the willingness of these men and women to serve our state. Surely they must each feel that their responsibilities are not light. So I pray for them that you would fit them for their duties.

Lord, these are indeed challenging days for all of us and especially for these who are gathered today to conduct the business of the state. If there ever was a day when they needed your wisdom and guidance, it is today.

Lord, if we truly know ourselves, we know deep down in our hearts that without your guidance and enabling we cannot do anything significant. So I pray Lord that you would turn the thoughts of these assembled today to you and grant them true understanding and wisdom for the task that lies before them.

Grant that they may each have the good will that is necessary to work together and serve the best interest of this great state. Lord, if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without your notice, how can any of us think that you are indifferent to what we do and say here today? So Lord, I pray for those who are assembled today to conduct the business of our great state, that you would give them the wisdom and courage to see and do what is right and good for all the people of our beloved state. For Jesus' sake. Amen.
